Student Athlete of the Week: Isiah Farmer, Columbus HS Baseball

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)–  Isiah Farmer has been playing baseball all of his life. Now the 5’10 Centerfielder is focusing on his final season of baseball, and what comes next. Five games into this season so far he is batting over six hundred on the diamond and has over six runs batted in. Isiah is also fielding scholarship offers. Isiah just decided what he wants to do if baseball doesn’t go through next year. He says he wants to be a physical therapist.

“I probably made that decision about a couple of months ago because I see the way our trainer Jason does. He does a good job with us and he steered me into the right direction of what I wanted to do,” said Student Athlete Isiah Farmer.

Isiah’s coach and teammates have seen him mature a lot from last year and hopes that it continues down the stretch of the season.

“He’s just a great leader on our team, senior leader, works hard in the weight room, got in here in August in our weight program, he’s a five hundred pound squatter and he’s just a stout kid and he brings that same intensity to the ball field,” said Head Coach Dallas Flippo.

“He has improved in his hitting and he feels good. He’s an excellent player and he’s outstanding on the field,” said teammate Tywhun Clayborn.

Isiah enjoys his classes, but one of the best classes he enjoys the most is trigonometry.

“It’s a challenge, but I always seem to get it,” said Farmer

Isiah’s mother Francis Stevenson is a graduate from Caldwell High School and his father Jerome Stevenson played football for two years and graduated at Columbus High School.

The Columbus Falcons baseball team will return to action Friday when they travel to Madison Central.
