CHOCTAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Clay Grissom has been a two sport athlete since the seventh grade, playing football and baseball for the Ackerman Indians. The school and Weir consolidated two years ago to create the Choctaw County Chargers. The left fielder knows the baseball games he has remaining are numbered. That’s why he’s never slacked off in the classroom.
“Clay’s not one you ever have to worry about because at nine weeks, we always check report cards and clay’s one of the ones who I kind of pick at of needing to check his report card, but I know deep down that there’s no doubt that he’s going to have his grades,” said Head Coach Andy Young.
His four-year membership in the beta club is evidence enough of his dedication to his grades and he hopes to turn that dedication and love of the sciences into a career as an athletic trainer.
“I just like to work with sports anyway I can. It’s been apart of my life, my whole life and I just want to work with it for the rest of my life,” said Student Athlete Clay Grissom.
Others see that dedication on and off the field.
“I think that Clay’s just the type that wants to be around athletics whether he’s playing it and that’s a wonderful opportunity for him to go on and be around it the rest of his life,” said Young.
“He’s always been a good friend of mine. He’s real reliable and he’s always been a hard worker and plays some good football too,” said teammate Brady Cagle.
