TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Strong winds are being blamed for the partial collapse of a building under construction in Tupelo.
It was around 2:30 P.M. when the second floor of an office complex on Front Street collapsed.
At least one construction worker was hurt, initial reports say he might have suffered a broken leg.
Firefighters were on the scene quickly, making sure the structure was sound.
“As far as facts and circumstances of what happened, it’s too early to know, the city has issued a stop work order so construction on the project will halt, we will get a structural engineer in to examine the building, make sure construction procedures have been properly followed.”
The office complex is being built by Tupelo attorney Kenneth Mayfield.
