STARVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI) The state Supreme Court clears the way for Starkville to begin work on a new city hall and eventually police department.
The court has refused to reconsider its previous decisions upholding lower court rulings that said city leaders didn’t act illegally when they reached an agreement with West Brothers construction on a new city hall. The city could begin tearing down the old electric department building within the next few weeks and then start building the new city hall. Eventually, the existing city hall will be renovated into a police department and court center.
Voters twice narrowly rejected bond issues for the project but last year, aldermen reached an $8 million deal for West Brothers to build the facility and lease it back to the city.
