VIDEO: State Representatives & Senators Talk Education

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- For the first time the Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce hosts an Education Town Hall Meeting.

The meeting was held at the Courtyard Marriot in Columbus Tuesday night.

Representatives Jeff Smith, Gary Chism, Kabir Karriem, Cheikh Taylor and Senators Angela Turner-Ford and Chuck Younger were all there taking questions from concerned parents and area educators.

Representative Karriem stated to the crowd the education system is under attack.

Questions ranged from funding, what can be done to increase funding without raising taxes and how to ensure quality education.

Organizers say they want the people of the Golden Triangle to have the chance to hear from those who can make change.

“Knowledge is the opportunity to make a difference and we want our young people to be able to make a difference by giving them the best possible education,” said Education Committee Chairman, Glenn Lautzenhiser.

Organizers say they hope to make this a yearly event.
