VIDEO: State Lawmakers Propose Internet Sales Tax For Mississippi
JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)- Attorney General Jim Hood is joining other attorneys general nationwide to propose a sales tax on internet sales.
Hood says that he will make the proposal next year to state lawmakers because currently the state is missing out on millions of dollars.
“So that’s a source of revenue, that many other states have captured and I think Mississippi should do the same, and I will go to our legislature next year and propose an internet sales tax so that we can collect that extra 150-million dollars and then we don’t have to, other tax payers don’t have to pay that tax that so many cities, and counties and school boards have lost out on that revenue from sales tax,” says Attorney General Jim Hood,
Currently, there are 20 states that charge internet sales tax.
