JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – State Auditor Stacey Pickering gives lawmakers a report outlining his office’s concerns with the Mississippi Adequate Education Program. Pickering says funding is given in a lump sum to school districts with no oversight or accountability on how the money is used. The report also says administrative costs have outgrown classroom spending and using enrollment numbers can inflate the number of students attending class. Pickering’s office also cites the lack of accountability with federal money and spending formulas. Each year the state Auditor provides an MAEP overview.
