Starkville, MS (WCBI) — The day after Christmas is usually the busiest day of the year for sanitation workers.
Employees riding one of the garbage trucks in the city of Starkville’s fleet are back on the job around seven Thursday morning.
“We took Christmas off so that put us a day behind though. But we’re going to go out here and do a good job,” said William Bell, Sanitation Worker.
One of the garbage trucks could be seen in the Timbercove Subdivision, now that store purchases have been made and gifts opened, bags of trash has to be removed from city streets.
“We got about four/five trucks out there, they’re all doing a good job. We got good helpers on back of the trucks. We just want to let people know that we’re going to try to do everything we can to keep the city looking good and beautified,” said Bell. The entire city has to be cleaned up block by block, one half now… the other half Friday morning.
“For the people that, who didn’t put their garbage out today so we’re going to run again tomorrow. So if you didn’t put your garbage out today, don’t feel rained on. Well do it again tomorrow,” said Bell.
Starkville city workers pickup recycled materials such as paper, cardboard, and plastic containers on Wednesdays at various locations.
