STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Some talented middle school students in Starkville were honored Saturday for their artistic abilities.
World Peace was theme of the 2nd Annual Peace Poster Contest sponsored by the Starkville Lions Club. Students at Armstrong Middle School began the contest in September and had the entire month to finish their poster. Jasmine Warnock was the 1st place winner from Mr. Franklin’s class.
“I represented different parts of the world on different branches of the tree to represent how each one is evolving. How China’s democracy is growing and government is growing. How America is growing as a country as well. Just how everything else is changing around us,” says Warnock.
The keynote speaker was 1st Vice District Governor Reba Bland, who has been with the Lions Club since 2007. Youth volunteers in the Leo Club say being a member is a great way to give back to the community .
“I remember we painted the Habitat House for Humanity. I really enjoyed it, helping people out because that’s something that I really do like to do. I enjoy helping people and making their lives better and putting a smile on their face,” says Ashely Fisher, Leo Club Member.
The Lions Club also provides vision screenings, supports diabetes prevention and assist with disaster emergency responses. The Starkville chapter of the Lions Club was established in 1948.
