STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A big weekend for the Magnolia State as both Ole Miss and Mississippi State take on top 12 opponents…
WCBI’s Michelle Lowe is standing by now live with more on the expectations for the weekend in Starkville
Aundrea- while relatively calm this afternoon, this strip of highway that crosses through Starkville is expected to jammed with tailgating traffic by early Saturday morning..
With an 11 o’clock kickoff, many tailgaters will already be in town Friday night to also enjoy Bulldog Bash Weekend..that means big business for restaurants, hotels, bars and gas stations..
An increase in sales has already been reported this Fall, but that number will only continue to climb as the undefeated Bulldogs take on Texas AandM. Local eateries are bringing in extra food and a full staff to handle the crowds..
” This weekend, we’re expecting a high volume, a lot of action, a lot of atmosphere and excitement. We had to bump up our orders on our appetizers and entrees.”
Coming up tonight at six– we’ll tell you how local distrubutors are working to keep up with demand.. Aundrea, back to you.
It’s a busy weekend in the Magnolia State as both undefeated SEC teams host top 15 opponents.
From Oxford to Starkville highways and hotels will be packed.
It’s good news for the hotels, bars and restaurants located along this main drag. Sales always pick up during football season, but with the bulldogs on a winning streak, and heavy presence of tailgaters from both near and far they are experiencing even better numbers. Local distributors are also getting ready for the big weekend.
” Typically on a ballgame weekend, our sales you know increase three to four percent, but you know Mississippi State and Texas A and M coming to town and both being undefeated plus Bulldog Bash, we expect our sales to be six to eight percent higher than just on a normal everyday weekend.”
If beer is included in the game day menu, be sure to designate a driver. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is also in full gear preparing for the traffic woes. You can follow them or visit hailstate.com for the latest road closures and traffic reroutes.
