Video: Sprinkler Malfunction Causes Water Leak In New Tupelo Police Headquarters

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A malfunction in a fire sprinkler system will cause another delay for the opening of Tupelo’s new police headquarters.

Crews putting the finishing touches on the building noticed the water leak this morning.  Officials say the sprinkler system leaked water from the third floor, to second floor administrative spaces, and onto first floor offices.

Most of the damage included ceiling tiles, insulation and carpet.   Experts say the situation could have been a whole lot worse.

“Oh, absolutely, with the way the building is now, they are bringing everything up, running for tests, had the police department been fully moved in, certainly a lot more personal property damage then actually occurred here at this stage,” said Rhettford Puckett, with ServPro of Tupelo.

It is estimated the repairs will delay the opening of the headquarters by a week or two.
