TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Doctors at North Mississippi Medical Center are learning about the latest technology to treat heart failure.
A mobile lab let doctors and nurses see how the “Impella” works.
It helps the heart pump blood.
Recently, cardiologists at NMMC performed the first implant with the device.
The operation was the first of its kind in a three state area.
“We have the ability to rescue people whose hearts aren’t pumping effectively, it also means when people have some elective procedures that are higher risk, we can use this device to decrease the risk a little bit.”
“If it hadn’t been for this device and the grace of God I wouldn’t be here today having this conversation with them and you, it means the world to me and it’s obvious it’s the reason I am here today.”
Taylor had complications after bypass surgery.
