Video: Siddell Finishing Strong For Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Starring on the diamond, the gridiron, and the classroom.

Tupelo’s LaBryant Siddell has led the Golden Wave to a division-clinching season in 2017, and continues to be one of the hottest bats in the lineup.

“LB”, as his teammates call him, has been a force at running back on the gridiron for the Golden Wave, as well as excelling in left field on the diamond.

“Basically the thing about…playing at Tupelo, this is really a family base school. Everybody wants to see you be successful,” Siddell said.

“I don’t consider them as my team. I consider them as brothers. It’s just been fun having them on my side.”

Following high school, Siddell will carry his 3.2 grade-point-average over to Fulton and play baseball for the Itawamba Community College Indians, and plan to major in Sports Training.

“What made me go [to ICC] is the coaching staff. Coach Collier, he called me every night and it was just a fun experience knowing that I have…a place to go next year just knowing that he really wanted me,” Siddell explained.

“I went to visit, and I just really liked it, and my parents liked what we seen.”

Siddell’s teammate Ray Sandroni had the chance to play with him on the football field and on the baseball field.

Sandroni knows the dual-sport athlete Siddell is making the right choice choosing the leather over the pigskin.

“I think he’s a better baseball player,” Sandroni said, “He was division player of the year our sophomore year, and he’s got some of the quickest hands I’ve ever seen on a high school baseball player, and it’s hard to get him out.”

Head baseball coach Justin Reed coached against Siddell during his time at South Panola High School.

Reed knew Siddell was special when they were in opposite dugouts, and that feeling never changed once Reed became his head coach.

“He’s a dual sport guy, so we don’t always have him in the fall, but when he comes to us in the spring, he’s excited about baseball,” Reed said.

“He’s a kid that you can tell he started baseball at a really young age. Just a super teammate. The kids love him. He’s a fun guy to be around. He never gets to high. Never gets to low, and a super kid.”

Siddell’s time with the Golden Wave is coming to a close.

The senior hopes to leave a legacy that lasts in Tupelo athletics.

“I would like them to remember me as a hard worker, and making sure that I have to do what I can do just to see my teammates win,” the senior Siddell said.

“I might be off that one night, but I can still raise my team up to be better so I can look up to them.”

The Golden Wave will be back in action Thursday night for senior night when they host South Pontotoc.
