Video: Shumpert Family Attorney Admits He Was Delayed In Providing Answers To ‘Discovery’ Requests From City Of Tupelo

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – An attorney for the family of Ronnie Shumpert says he will comply with a judge’s order to turn over information requested by the City of Tupelo in a lawsuit filed over his  death.

Carlos Moore said he was delayed in providing the city with some of the information because of a health issue involving his wife, and  alleged death threats he received connected with a separate lawsuit he filed against Governor Phil Bryant over the Mississippi State Flag.

Moore held a news conference this afternoon in Tupelo, with members of the Shumpert family.

He said the civil case is moving forward, in spite of last week’s ruling.

“There was a period of time in 2016 when I was not at full performance, I was not giving 100 percent as I am known to do and while I did answer the discovery I did so late.  It is not the Shumpert’s fault, or the court’s fault that I got the five death threats.  I decided to challenge the governor about that state flag cause it’s very offensive to me,” Moore said.

Moore has depositions scheduled in late April in Oxford.  The civil case against the city is set for a December trial in federal court in Aberdeen.  Late last year, a Grand Jury declined to indict Tupelo Police Officer Tyler Cook in the Shumpert shooting.
