TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A local sheriff is honored for his compassion and dedication to serve the community.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson was presented with the “Ambassador Award” from Gentiva Hospice.

It is the first “Ambassador Award” given in the area and Gentiva Hospice officials say Sheriff Johnson received the honor because of his selfless service and determination to make a difference in the lives of others facing terminal illnesses.

“He is totally dedicated to not only Gentiva Hospice but to the community. I have reached out to sheriff Johnson many times as far as getting him to deliver patients during cold winter months and any kind of volunteerism we need from him and community support he’s always there for Gentiva,” said Kelly Brewer of Gentiva Hospice.

“This award here is special because of Gentiva Hospice, my dad was on hospice, I lost him to cancer and I know what a family will go through and I know how important the support of that organization is,” Sheriff Johnson said.

The “Ambassador Award” will be given on a quarterly basis.
