Video: Sen. Cochran Meets With African-American Pastors In Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) spent time this afternoon listening to concerns from African American pastors about unemployment rates and cuts in programs such as Medicaid and Medicare.
Senator Cochran met with a group of African American pastors at Tupelo’s Community Development Foundation headquarters.
The senator was invited to visit with the pastors by local businessman and conservative activist, Ed Holliday.
Senator Cochran said before the meeting, that he was looking forward to hearing concerns from the community leaders.
“I don’t have the power to wave a magic wand and solve all problems of the world but what I can do is bring to attention of people in Washington the environment we have here in our state for attracting good paying jobs to people who are ready to work,want to work, are good at it,” Sen. Cochran said.
“I don’t think it’s ever wrong to sit down and see what a man may have to offer or talk about. As a whole I am with the Democratic Party and my interest is in trying to see America go forward as one nation,” said Pastor Clarence Parks, of the Temple of Compassion and Deliverance.
The meeting was closed to the press. Cochran faces Democratic Challenger Travis Childers in the November general election.
