Video: Salvation Army’s ‘Red Kettle’ Campaign Facing Several Challenges
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – It may be tougher for a local Salvation Army chapter to help those in need this Christmas season.
Tupelo’s Salvation Army is having trouble finding enough qualified people to work at their red kettles this Christmas season.
The Red Kettle effort is the biggest fundraising opportunity of the year for the Salvation Army;s work in the community.
However, this year, there is a lack of paid workers and volunteers. Also, giving is down 15 thousand dollars when compared with the same time last year.
Major Jeff Daniel says volunteer bell ringers are especially important.
“We encourage people to do that at least in two hour increments. It’s great if a business or group can take an entire day, then they can divide it up between members of the group or employees in a business but at least two hours at a time because it helps us with the logistics of meeting volunteers at the location and getting them put out, and so on,” Maj. Daniel said.
The last day of the Red Kettle campaign this year is December 23rd. Money raised goes to help meet needs at Christmas, and throughout the year. If you would like to help out, call 662 842 9222.
