VIDEO: Safety Day Event
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)-
The importance of wearing a seat belt was one of several items emphasized at a community event in Tupelo.
Health Works sponsored a safety day with the Mississippi Department of Transportation demonstration of what happens in a rollover accident to someone without a seat belt.
Health Works Implementation Coordinator Rebekah Wilson says it is especially important for children to learn common sense safety measures.
“And the thing is about kids is often times they’re very curious and they might not be aware of the dangers around them. Adults probably do know that that might be a live wire don’t touch it, but kids might not realize that so we want to make kids aware of what’s around them and how to be safe the circumstances.” said Wilson.
Another one of the major attractions was this fire safety simulator which taught the children how to properly get out of a house engulfed by smoke.
They were forced to go out of a window because the door was impassable.
This is the second year Health Works has conducted safety day which they think is great resource for the community.
