NEW ALBANY, MISS. (WCBI) – Students at New Albany Elementary are visiting a mobile exhibit.
“We’re excited about Roll, Match and Read,” said Principal Jamey Wright.
The modular, pop up exhibit is rented from the Mississippi Children’s
Museum. It is meant to provide a safe space for kids to explore motor
skills, through components such as an adjustable track.
There are also books and finger puppets, to aid in storytelling and early
reading skills.
“It’s great anytime a kid can learn and not realize they’re learning, they
feel like they’re playing,” Wright said.
Before “Roll Match Read” students in Pontotoc, Union and Lee County schools
had to travel to Jackson to visit the museum, but through a partnership with
Toyota, the museum can travel to the youngsters.
“Toyota is very focused on advancing early childhood education, specifically
reading literacy, so this exhibit has given us the chance to bring in
something at the early childhood education level, starting with pre k and
then advancing to kindergarten and first grade,” said Emily Holland, with TMMMS.
Students enjoy the attraction.
“I like coloring on the board, and everything, I like playing ball, I like
signing my name,” said Pre K student Jamie Avila.
Roll, Match and Read stays at New Albany Elementary through the end of this
school year.
The exhibit heads to Pontotoc after its time in New Albany.
