HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) -It’s a long way from Houston to Sarajevo, but it’s a path retired Brigadier General Gary Huffman knows well. The Chickasaw County native spoke out about his tour with NATO Forces in Bosnia and Herzegovinia during the Bosnian War.
Huffman also briefed the crowd on the background and causes of the war, as well as progress in the country in the last 20 years.
Huffman served as Commander at NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo. He feels it’s important that Americans know that the military is often called to far-flung areas of the globe.
“Many different kinds of missions worldwide, so everything from diplomatic missions, the war fight that’s going on in Afghanistan. Our soldiers do many different types of missions that never make the news, and people are not aware that we participate in these missions.”
Huffman spoke to the Chickasaw County Historical and Genealogical Society.
