Video: Restaurant Owners Discuss Concerns About Upcoming Presidential Election
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Owners of local restaurants had a chance to voice their concerns about how their industry may be impacted by the upcoming presidential election.
The Mississippi Hospitality and Restaurant Association took part in a discussion between local restaurant owners, and Senator Roger Wicker at Tupelo’s Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Topics were discussed such as the possiblity that the minimum wage could be raised, the continuing impact of the Affordable Care Act on small businesses and other issues both presidential candidates have pushed.

“We’ve done some preliminary research, across the board average on minimum wage increase, would drive up prices 28 percent on average and that does not include any additional cost,” said Mike Cashion, of the Hospitality and Restaurant Association of Mississippi.
“If it’s more burdensome on somebody trying to stay in the restaurant business, what are the chances of them staying open, or expanding. What we want our restaurants to do is create more jobs,” said Sen. Wicker.
Cashion says his group is leaning toward Republican Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
