COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Halloween is just around the corner, and though many parts of our area could be seeing some rain, residents are still stocking up on candy for trick or treaters.
Employees at the Columbus Food Giant told WCBI you’d normally see more Halloween-themed candies like candy corn on display at their store, but not this year – they’re selling out.
For the grocery store, business is booming when it comes to Halloween candy sales this year.
“Generally Halloween is more of an other types of stores do good, but this year we’ve noticed an increase,” said store manager Terry Brownlee.
Brownlee says customers are sticking to the basics when it comes to candy for trick or treaters.
“I like to do the KitKats, the Reese’s Cups, a lot of the stuff that kids don’t usually get to get any other time,” said cashier Jennifer Rodgers.
“They like the Blow Pops and definitely M&M’S,” said customer Shirley Robinson. “You can’t leave M&M’S and Snickers out.”
But what’s not as popular? For his store, Brownlee says TWIX.
“People buy them, but they’re not the grab and go kind of candy,” he said.
Customers WCBI spoke with say they’ll gladly eat whatever candy’s leftover, because they pick out their favorites.
“We just like chocolate,” said customer Kathy Edwards.
And Food Giant employees say they don’t expect candy sales to slow down any as it gets closer to Halloween.
“You don’t want to be the house without the candy,” Brownlee said.
