VIDEO: Reform Recovers From Tornado
REFORM, Ala. (WCBI) – The community in Reform, Alabama is still recovering after the northwestern section was hit by a tornado a few days ago.
There’s still a lot of cleanup to be done, but the community is coming together to make sure everyone is taken care of.
The damage path this tornado left wasn’t very large, but it had a huge impact along sixth street in Reform.
Some progress has been made with the cleanup, but there’s still plenty of work to be done.
The road may be cleared on sixth street, but you can still see what happened a few days ago.
For people like Victoria Brown, who was in her closet with her family when the tornado ripped her home in half, words are hard to come by.
“When you finally come out and you see what you’ve survived, you know, you can’t help but be blessed. I’m blessed; we’re all blessed,” said Brown.
Several families lost almost everything in the storm, but through all of that people are relieved there were no lives lost.
“We can’t complain because we were spared, and, you know, it’s just seeing everything destroyed. We grew up here. Everybody’s family; everybody’s close-knit. But other than that, we’re fine,” continued Brown.
Several people were trapped inside of their homes during the tornado and transported to a hospital after rescuers got them out.
Everyone is now out of the hospital, free from injury.
“Oh it’s a blessing. It’s a blessing being made by God. Looking at this, oh my God. I’m glad we were not at home,” said storm victim, Mary Lee.
Now, the neighborhood is trying to salvage what they can from the situation.
“We got a few clothes out, but everything else is damaged,” said Lee.
After a close encounter with some of the worst nature has to offer, people are still finding the positives from the situation.
“You’re still nervous, you know, you’re still shaken up. But we’re alive and that’s good,” said Brown.
Several of the families told me that insurance agents have already assessed home and auto situations, and they wait for results.
Though neighbors and the community have helped with the cleanup, those affected are hoping the city will also come in and help to clean up the area as quick as possible.
