Video: “Read Across America” Day Stops in Columbus and Starkville

COLUMBUS and STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Some children in Columbus get a chance to honor America’s most beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss. March 2nd also marks Read Across America Day. Community leaders along with 30 children ages K through third grade had their eyes buried in books.
The observance honors the work of Dr. Seuss’s on his 111th birthday. Children at the Columbus Boys And Girls Club were all smiles as volunteers read from a treasure chest of books celebrating the joys of reading.
At the end of the period of observance, the children were given gift bags decorated with Dr. Seuss characters.
Members of various Greek organizations in the Golden Triangle are celebrating Read Across America Day.
The GTA Chapter of the National Pan Hellenic Council spent the evening at the Brickfire Pre-School in Starkville reading to students and leading hands-activities with the children and their parents.
The children also enjoyed special refreshments as part of their Dr. Seuss birthday party. The NPHC donated books to the pre-school as part of the celebration.
