TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – More than 100 fifth graders at one Tupelo school took part in a special graduation ceremony.
Rankin Elementary fifth graders received DARE certificates and other awards as part of the ceremony marking completion of the ten week program.
DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education and it allows fifth graders to learn about the dangers of drugs and alcohol from law officers.
“At this age is when the peer pressure begins, and those decisions aren’t going to be made when they are 16, 17 or 21, those decisions begin now,” said Rankin Principal Amy Barnett.
The DARE program has been in schools nationwide for more than 30 years.
