Video: Professionals Stress “Call Before You Dig”

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – “Call before you dig.” That’s the message Mississippi 811 is hoping to send to future contractors.

The Operation Pipeline safety seminar took place Tuesday  at the Trotter Convention Center in Columbus.

Area excavators, local law enforcement and first responders took time to learn safety tips.

Mississippi 811 representatives hope the seminar will help keep the hotline in mind before any mistakes happen.

“Some people do not know to call maybe but for most contractors, most utilities know to call. Some people get in a hurry, sometimes you forget and we have those out there who just are not willing to call.”

If damages do happen during a dig, there are no penalties as far as state laws but violators will pay for the damages to property.
