Video: President Obama Calls for New Round of Base Closure Studies

NORTH MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – A new round of military base closings could be on the horizon. On the heels of vetoing the Defense Authorization act, President Obama has called for the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission to make a new round of recommendations for the next fiscal year.

The commission has yet to meet, and has not marked any facilities for closure. But the mention of BRAC is enough to raise concerns with many..Senator Roger Wicker questions the president’s timing and motives.

” With everything as troublesome as it is around the world, I really question and doubt seriously that this is the time for the president to talk about cutting our military bases even further.”

The last round of BRAC recommended base closures took place in 2005.
