COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Organizers of Columbus’ “Fireworks on the Water” say the show will go on….rain or shine.
WCBI’s Alyssa Martin joins us with a preview of the festivities.
” It’s been a day full of preparation here at the Stennis Lock and Dam, all for a much anticipated event tomorrow night. Live music, games and a firework show are just a few things friends and families can enjoy. There are a number of sponsors for this city wide event, and one is the Columbus Air Force Base.
Joining me now to talk more about tomorrow night is Sonic Johnson with the Air Force Base.
What can people expect when they come out tomorrow?
“We are opening up this first class U.S. Army Core of Engineers facility is our host for this event at 5 and give you an opportunity to come out and get a front row seat to listen to Johnny Coleman and the Swing Shift play some live music, got some vendors and then the fireworks coming after dark.”
Talk about the rain plan if it moves into the area tomorrow.
” Well safety is our number one concern. If its thunderstorms and lightning that’s a showstopper but this is our nations birthday, 239th, and no one likes to postpone their birthday party so watch the Columbus Air Force Base’s Facebook site and WCBI keeping a loop of what we’re doing.”
Thank you so much. Everything will kick off tomorrow at 5 so come out bring your lawn chairs, coolers, friends and family- enjoy the evening. For now we’ll send it back to you in the studio.
