PONTOTOC, MISS. (WCBI) – At Pontotoc’s Flutter and Company, it was a steady stream of customers on this Black Friday.
Co owner Kim Huddleston is expecting a strong Christmas shopping season.
“We are, so far the response has been great so we are stocked and ready for the holiday shoppers,” Huddleston said.
Reena Greer and her daughter Rani were pounding the pavement, looking for after Thanksgiving sales.
“I have bought three Christmas gifts and I also bought myself a pea coat which was 75 percent off,” Greer said.
On the same block, BT’s restaurant was open and ready to serve hungry shoppers. Just like the stores, the restaurant will have expanded hours throughout the next month.
“The Main Street Association and Chamber of Commerce has got the retail stores staying open till 8 pm on Thursdays downtown so we’re real excited about that and then we are also going to open on Saturdays,” said BT’s owner Brian Turner.
Like many cities in the region, Pontotoc is experiencing a revitalization in its downtown. Here on Main Street there are new restaurants and shops that have opened, and customers say the specialty shops provide products and services you can’t find just anywhere else.
“Being from a locally owned business growing up that’s who I would much rather spend my money with, is a local business,” Greer said.
“Everybody’s very friendly, I’ve been in this area shopping before and I’ve always liked to come back here,” said Anita Adams, as she made a purchase at Flutter & Co.
By all accounts Christmas shopping season here is off to a brisk start, and merchants are hopeful the customers will keep coming.
