PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) – It was a chance for women to engage in an activity usually done by men.
The Pontotoc Habitat for Humanity chapter took part in Habitat for Humanities sixth annual “National Women Build” week. They began to work on this habitat house originally built in 1994, but has suffered extensive storm damage to it’s roof. Barbara Carter is the Women Build coordinator. She says they picked today for a special reason.
“On the Saturday before mother’s day it’s kind of a celebration of mothers and women coming together to do work that traditionally men do,” says Carter.
Carter says the project requires that at least 75-percent of the workers are women. More than 41,000 women across the country have participated in National Women Build Week in previous years.
