Video: Plane Wreckage Moved from Crash Site
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — The on site investigation into Monday’s fatal plane crash in Tupelo is over.
A flatbed trailer carrying the wreckage of the Beech Bonanza 36 left the crash site just north of the Tupelo Regional Airport Tuesday evening.
The wreckage is headed to Arkansas, where NTSB personnel will re assemble it as the investigation continues.
The single engine plane took off around 8:30 Monday morning, and crashed seconds later, killing all four people onboard.
During a press briefing, an NTSB investigator said eyewitnesses reported seeing debris fall from the plane as it took off. That debris from the exhaust was recovered and is part of the investigation.
Also, the pilot made two radio calls requesting permission to turn around and land at the airport and reported smoke in the cockpit.
Millicent Hoidal is with the NTSB and says the investigation will pinpoint a cause and also hopefully help prevent future tragedies.
“That’s what we strive for, that’s our mission to improve safety so if there’s something we found that can make a difference for somebody else out there flying, we will get that information out as soon as we can because that’s our goal, is to not see this happen again,” Hoidal said.
A preliminary report on the crash will come out in 5 to ten days. It will take a year to 18 months before the final report is ready.
