BOONEVILLE, MISS. (WCBI) – A historic achievement is celebrated this morning in Booneville. As WCBI’s Allie Martin reports, a Prentiss County farmer’s invention has been patented and now the device can help farmers nationwide.
Eight years ago, Greg Chambers was looking for a better way to feed his animals.
“I was needing a place, storage, to store feed,” he said.
Using scrap steel at his 160 acre Rienzi farm, he built the “Chambers Feeding Tank.”
It’s a portable tank that can store feed and includes an internal system to prevent the feed from caking.
An auger alters the rate of dispensing and it prevents rodent infestation.
Chambers got a patent for his invention in December, a process that took six years. He’s the first African American and first Prentiss County resident to get an invention patent.
“I give anybody, if they something that they can help people with, it’s worth the time and trouble to go through it,” Chambers added,
State leaders are among the hundreds that came to see the official unveiling of the feeding tank at the Prentiss County Agri Center.
“Entrepreneurs in Mississippi are rated in the top ten, and I think Gregory Chambers is a perfect example of that. Here’s an inventor that came up with an idea of how we take care of our livestock,” said Gov. Phil Bryant.
Now, Chambers is looking for a Mississippi company to make his feeding tanks. Meaning, his invention will be helping farmers and giving other people a job.
“Our goal now is to help manufacture this product, help him market it around the world and to have another Mississippi success story,” Gov. Bryant said.
Greg’s wife says her husband is proof that hard work and perseverance pay off.
“He would stay out there in his shed, almost all night, I would say, Greg, what are you doing? He said, “you will see when I get it done.” I really didn’t have no idea. When he was finished he said, come on out here and look, and I was amazed. I really am proud of him,” Dianna Chambers said.
Now, Chambers is ready to show the mobile feeding tank to farmers across the country.
The Chambers Feeding Tank has more than 20 different variations to help transport and store feed for livestock.
