Video: Parents Adopt Wait and See Approach to School Merger

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -School consolidation is a big change in the community. In Starkville and Oktibbeha County The Department of Justice is asking questions and parents are also speaking up.

The merger takes place July first.All sixth graders will go to Armstrong Middle School.High schoolers will be at Starkville High.

Throughout this year, educators have visited the county schools and some students have taken classes offered at Starkville. The state mandated merger hasn’t come without controversy but there are signs of more acceptance.

“We see because of the impact it will have in the county that it will be better for the greater good for the community as well. I think the school administration for the things that I’ve seen, in particular with my children, is that they are going above and beyond in helping those individuals understand that they are welcome.”

The middle and high schools are adding new classrooms.
