Video: Oxford High School Plays Host to Some of America’s Newest Citizens

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — They are proud to Americans. Surrounded by families and friends, a group, took the oath to become citizens at the naturalization ceremony held at Oxford High School.
“Today is the day I have been waiting for many years,” said new U.S. citizen, Sung Ra.
The dream of becoming an American citizen came true for many than 70 people Tuesday afternoon in Oxford. Family and friends gathered at the high school to witness the ceremony.
“I am glad for everybody that is here, all the countries becoming a United States Citizen,” said supporter Bulah Hicks. “I am very excited for them.”
The excitement heightened as candidates stood and took the Oath of Allegiance, a privilege that not only effects them
“It is a benefit that’s not only for us, but for our family, sons, daughters,” said Ernestina Moncida.
The service also served as a unique learning experience for the students of Oxford High School, the first school in North Mississippi to hold a Naturalization Ceremony. Students were exposed to the rights and privileges we hold as American Citizens.
Oxford Schools Superintendent, Brian Harvey said, “It is a celebration of what we are as Americans and the prestige we hold in the World that people want to come and be apart of our great nation.”
Federal Judge Sharion Aycock presided over the ceremony. Oxford High School students presented the colors and provided music.
