Video: Over $40 Million From FEMA Earmarked for Winston County Rebuilding

LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The rebuilding effort taking place in Louisville and Winston County has received a significant shot in the arm.  Senator Thad Cochran and Congressmen Roger Wicker and Alan Nunnelee today announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded the state $43.5 million in federal grants to bolster the cleanup and rebuilding effort in Louisville and Winston County.

About $34.5 million from those funds will also go toward restoring a plywood plant in Louisville, which had been heavily damaged in the April 28 tornado. $10.8 million will assist Winston County and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency in their ongoing effort to restore medical services in the area.

“This will have a huge impact. Not just on Louisville and Winston County, but on the entire region of Mississippi for this industry. For us to build this building and get this industry alive, and bring back a vibrant part of the economy.”

The Louisville plant was originally scheduled to open in July. Officials said the plant is expected to hire about 200 local residents, and estimated a 400-person workforce.
