BLUE SPRINGS, Miss. (WCBI) -Over a hundred animals are now receiving emergency veterinary care. The Union County Sheriff’s Department and the Animal Rescue Corps spent the day rounding up the abused and neglected animals at a home on County Road 201 near Blue Springs.
The Sheriff’s Department was tipped off by a local veterinarian, and an investigation at the property found several cruelty violations. According to Sheriff Jimmy Edwards, it was the third time in about three years that deputies had been called to the scene.
Around 75 dogs, 20 cats, 17 horses, and 3 donkeys were taken away, including one horse that appears to have been shot through the neck.
“We don’t like seizing peoples animals, but in this case in this time they were in horrible conditions. Some of them on the verge of not being able to make it.”
“We will be here through the evening removing one hundred percent of these animals from these two properties. Bringing them back to our emergency shelter where our veterinarian teams are waiting to care for these animals”.
The Mississippi State School Veterinary School is assisting with emergency medical care for the animals. For information on adoption and fostering opportunities please visit www.animalrescuecorps.org. Animal Rescue Corps will also post fostering information to its Facebook page.
