Video: One Million Dollar Bond Set For Suspect In Murder Of Verona Teen
VERONA, MISS. (WCBI) – Bond is set at one million dollars for the man accused in the fatal shooting of a Verona teenager last week.
Twenty four year old Brandon Rucker is charged with murder in the shooting death of 17 year old Lorenzo Wright Junior last Thursday.
Rucker had his bond set Monday morning at Lee County Justice Court. The Chickasaw County man turned himself in Friday evening.
Verona Police Chief JB Long says Rucker shot Wright Thursday afternoon, on Clement Street, then fled the scene.
Wright died a short time later at NMMC.
The chief says both men were spotted together earlier in the day at a nearby convenience store and apparently had some sort of argument moments before the shooting.
Chief Long says he is satisfied at the high bond because of the seriousness of the crime.
“What the judge does, anytime certain crimes the judge wants to send out messages and in situation this , we got two losses, we got the loss of Lorenzo Wright, we have the loss from Rucker’s family as well, we got two families grieving, but the million dollar bond is just a bond the judge set for certain crimes, so , I have nothing to say negative about the million dollars,” Chief Long said.
Members of Rucker’s family were present during his initial hearing and told the judge they would get an attorney for the suspect.
The shooting marked Verona’s first homicide of the year.
