COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Surveillance video clears the son of the Columbus Police Chief as a shooting suspect. Now, state investigators are looking for the actual shooter.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of a store at the corner of 14th Avenue North and Waterworks Road in Columbus Thursday night. The victim was wounded in the arm and shoulder. Friends started to drive him to the hospital, but stopped at the Boys and Girls Club on 14th Avenue North to meet an ambulance.
The victim told police that Chief Selvain McQueen’s son was among those involved in the disturbance. McQueen picked his son, turned him over to detectives and immediately called the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to take over the case.
Store surveillance cameras showed McQueen’s son was inside the store, not in the parking lot, when the shots were fired. He has been released.
