Video: Oktibbeha County Residents Learn and Teach a Lesson in Community Involvement
STURGIS, Miss. (WCBI) –It can be rewarding. That’s what community volunteers found out Wednesday in Sturgis as they worked side by side with teachers at West Elementary School.
The volunteers read stories and helped with math lessons as part of the “Educator for a Day” program.
Principal Andrea Pastchal-Smith says community involvement in the schools and with the students is key.
“Our volunteers will be sharing their educational background with the students also to motivate them along with reading or teaching a math lesson to a particular class level.”
Twenty community leaders participated in Wednesday’s classroom event.
