STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Five people were injured this weekend after shots were fired outside of an Okitibbeha County night club. Now residents in the area say something needs to be done about the violence.
“In the last 4 to 5 years, it’s just been random shootings, different events, fights and stuff,” says Willie Dee Williams, who lives behind Club Rock in the Rock Hill area.
“It woke me up around 3 o’clock in the morning. So I got up and looked out the window and people were running up and down the street,” says Rock Hill resident, Betty Jean Petty.
Five people were injured in the shooting. One person was airlifted to a Jackson hospital.
“Most of my concern is about the stray bullets because I’m so close and I’m next door.Once bullets fly, they’re going somewhere,” says Williams.
“Neighbors are concerned. They’re elderly people. They’re afraid that someone might shoot in their house,” says Petty.
Residents say the Club is also becoming a nuisance. Club goers are leaving trash behind and parking in their driveway.
“They turn around in my driveway. They block my driveway. The next morning a lot of trash, paper, beer cans, beer bottles and stuff like that are left behind,” says Williams.
This neighborhood says violence is becoming more frequent. After this weekend’s shooting, they’d like to see more deputies and security at the Club.
The shooting remains under investigation. No arrest has been made and deputies aren’t releasing a motive.
