Video: Oktibbeha County Gets Check for New Fire Truck

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s a big check that could make a big difference in fire response time in Oktibbeha County. State Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney was in Starkville Tuesday to present the Oktibbeha County Volunteer Fire Department a check for $70,000.00. The money will go towards the cost of a new pumper truck.
The funds came from the state’s Rural Fire Truck Acquisition Assistance Program, which pays up to one third of the cost of new trucks. The program has multiple benefits for residents.
“It’s a pretty good program. So far in Oktibbeha County we have given away since 2008, eight hundred thousand dollars in rebate money. So, it’s a program that works. The idea is to save lives and property, and a byproduct is lower insurance rates.”
Through the program the county is responsible for two-thirds of the cost of the new fire truck.
