Video: Okolona Town Marshal’s Race Moves from Polls to Court
OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) –Four months after voters cast their ballots, the Okolona city Marshal’s race is raising questions, this time in a courtroom.
In May William Randle defeated Tommie Ivy, Sr. by one vote.
However, Ivy believes some of the ballots were mishandled. He filed a lawsuit against the Democratic Executive Committee and Randle.
In day 3 of arguments, Ivy’s attorney argued that some of the votes were cast by unregistered voters.
However, Randle’s attorney feels that his client’s victory will stand.
” We tried to put forth the best information we could, and we feel confident that , we’re excited about the outcome,” said Wlater Zinn, Randle’s attorney. “It’s been an exhaustive, long process.”
“The real losers in this election are those voters, because they didn’t know, and unfortunately the votes are illegal in the sense they shouldn’t have counted in this election,” said Gary Goodwin, Ivy’s attorney.
The hearing will reconvene October 25th.
