OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) — The weekend shooting of an Okolona teenager is still being investigated and Okolona Police are not saying much and they do “not” have a motive for what area residents are calling a tragic situation.
The shooting occurred around eleven Friday night during a gathering of people at the 300 block of Jefferson Street. One neighborhood witness who declined to go on camera mentioned a tree on that street being riddled with bullets.
Although no motive is given by police, it is believed that the incident stemmed from a woman either loosing or misplacing a large amount of money that was retrieved by someone else. In an exchange of gunfire between adults, the 14 year old was somehow struck once in the head with a bullet.
“Right now we got three males in custody for questioning. Possibly as the day progresses two or three more is going to be picked up. Just kind of weeding through it. There are a couple of guns involved. So we’re kind of wadding through it right now,” said Investigator Dwight Parker, Okolona Police Dept.
Okolona Police confiscated two vehicles from that location. Okolona School District officials have called in counselors for the students and they are supporting the victim’s family.
