LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — An Okolona man who was arrested earlier this week for a string of burglaries in Union County is behind bars for similar crimes in Lee County.
39-year-old Samuel Garcia has been charged with two counts of burglary of a residence. Lee County sheriff Jim Johnson said Garcia broke into the Lee County homes last month.
Garcia was detained at the Union County Jail for burglaries there, when Johnson says evidence was gathered that tied Garcia to the Lee County crimes.
Johnson said Garcia was arrested and convicted for residential burglaries in 2006 and served time in prison.
In fact, Garcia is on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
“You know, Mr. Garcia is not a very old individual, that tells you that it started at a very young age and it has continued,” Johnson said. “So, we’re going to have to do something through our grand jury indictment and through our DA to hopefully get something permanently done for this person where he won’t be back out causing a threat to people and their property.”
Authorities in Itawamba, Pontotoc and Marshall counties are also looking at Garcia as a suspect in home burglaries.
Garcia’s bond was set at $50,000.
