TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Patients entering into the hospice stage and their families will now receive a helping hand.
The North Mississippi Medical Center hospice program hosted a volunteer training workshop on Wednesday. The workshop guided volunteers on how to work with the families and fulfill duties assigned to them.
Volunteers will be assigned to run errands, prepare light meals and other similar tasks. NMMC hospice volunteer coordinator, Chris Maynard aims for volunteers to help patients with their physical needs as well.
“They go in basically and work as a friend bringing fresh life into situations at the end of life when patients and their families are tired. They offer support emotionally and they take on physical challenges like going to the grocery store.”
