Video: Newest ‘Splash Pad’ A Welcomed Addition To Neighborhood

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Moments after the official ribbon cutting ceremony, Tupelo’s third Splash Pad was being enjoyed by the young, and young at heart.

This Splash Pad cost $550,000, with $150,000 coming from a Land Water Conservation Grant.

Parks and Rec Director Alex Farned says it’s all about improving the quality of life for residents of southwest Tupelo and the entire city.

“It’s just meant to come out, and have fun and be cool in the summer,” Farned said.

There are a lot of features to this SplashPad, but the wettest is something called the “Super Bucket”

” I think it holds, right at about 60 gallons of water and so it is just a lot of fun when you get up under that bucket because it just throws water everywhere,”Farned said.

There were a lot of folks on hand for the inaugural day of the Splash Pad. Southern Heights resident Sara Cayson says the watery feature will bring a tight knit community closer together.

“We already had a very family oriented community, but like you said, this brings it all together, especially for the children, to have something to do,” Cayson said.

Experts gave the splash pad rave reviews.

What do you like about this?

“It’s fun, and many, some children don’t have pools at home and they can just come out to the splash pad,” said Tupelo resident Danielle Owens.

You think you will be out here a lot?

“That depends because I live in Memphis,” said Chloe Williams.

Do you have a splash pad like this in Memphis?

“I don’t know,” Williams said.

Maybe you can talk to the mayor in Memphis and get one built?

“Okay,” she said.

You don’t have to take a shower now.

“I know, never again,” said Jordan Forshee of Tupelo.

The Splash Pad is open everyday from 10 till 7.
