LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – It all adds up. A teacher dedicated to math and science is recognized for her work.
Susie Oglesby is the STEM teacher at New Hope High School. Today Oglesby is named by the Mississippi Department of Education as a State Finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics and Science.
She says focusing on teachers in this field is a step forward for Mississippi.
“I think a lot of times our math and science teachers don’t get enough recognition in the state of Mississippi. And I feel that this is one way to improve on our state, is to help recognize our math and science teachers.”
Principal Matt Smith says the school is proud to celebrate her success.
