Video: New Classroom Space To Help Minors Held At Juvenile Detention Facility Stay On Track With Lesson Plan
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A new classroom at the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center could help students stay on track with their school work.
The Lee County Youth Court Judge, youth court workers, counselors , along with the Lee County Sheriff and workers at the juvenile detention center attended an open house for a new classroom.
That classroom is at the Lee County JDC and will help better meet the needs of minors who are sentenced to the JDC.
Youth Court Judge Charlie Brett says it’s vital to make sure minors at the JDC keep up with their school work.
“We have less distractions, here at the Juvenile Detention Center than you would on a regular school campus, they actually can do in two weeks, do four to six weeks of school work and actually get a little bit ahead, of where they would have been had they been in the regular school setting the whole time,” Judge Brett said.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says the new classroom was badly needed because there wasn’t enough room in the JDC facility.
