NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – New Albany Police will soon be opening new lines of communication and improving safety.
The Board of Alderman have approved funding for a new radio system for the Police Department.
The current system is operating on limited bandwidth, and offered low quality and short distance communication.
With the new radios, Police will join the statewide MSWIN system, allowing them to communicate with responders from different departments throughout the state.
The board approved $80,000.00 for the system. But the mayor and chief see it as an investment.
“In hopes it increases our safety of our officers, and allow us better to serve the community.”
The MSWIN System was created to improve inter-agency communication after Hurricane Katrina.
