Video: ‘National Library Week’ Celebrates Transformation Libraries Have On Cities, Towns

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Public libraries across the region are in the spotlight this week as part of a national observance.

“National Library Week” is sponsored by the American Library Association.  It gives libraries a chance to showcase what they have to offer their communities.

At the Lee County Library, children recently came for a weekly “Storytime.”  The most recent storytime featured a representative from Renasant Bank, who read a book on money management.

One library employee said it’s rewarding to work in an environment that promotes learning at an early age.

“Libraries are a vital part of the community, for educational purposes, but also for fun purposes too and that’s kind of what we try and do here at storytime.  Do something educational but also make it fun so we can hook kids from an early age. Because if we can get them reading as children then they will grow up to be readers and grow up to be curious and want to find out more information about topics that interest them,” said Maddie Ludt Pressley, of the Lee County Library.

“Libraries Transform” is the theme for National Library Week this year.
